CVE-2026-42016/42018/82329 — JFrog Artifactory

Three critical vulnerabilities—CVE-2026-42016, CVE-2026-42018, and CVE-2026-82329—impact JFrog Artifactory, enabling threat actors to bypass authentication, escalate privileges, and deploy persistent backdoors. All three CVEs are actively exploited in the wild; immediate remediation is required.

Attack Vector

Attackers chained authentication bypass and privilege escalation flaws to gain administrator access on self-hosted JFrog Artifactory instances. Once inside, they installed malicious plugins for arbitrary code execution, created persistent admin accounts, and exfiltrated sensitive configuration data such as cluster keys. The attack requires network access to the Artifactory management interface and targets unpatched deployments. No user interaction is needed. Indicators of compromise include unauthorized admin accounts, unknown plugins, and anomalous outbound connections from Artifactory hosts.

Who Is at Risk

All organizations running self-hosted JFrog Artifactory are at risk, regardless of region or sector. Both on-premises and cloud-hosted instances are vulnerable if not patched. There are confirmed reports of exploitation across multiple industries globally. Managed JFrog Cloud SaaS is not affected.

Patch & Mitigate

  • Patch: Upgrade to the latest fixed version of JFrog Artifactory released June 2026. Apply vendor hotfixes immediately if a full upgrade is not possible.
  • Workaround: Restrict network access to Artifactory management interfaces and disable unused plugins until patching is complete.
  • Detect: Monitor for new or unknown admin accounts, installation of unauthorized plugins, and unexpected outbound traffic from Artifactory servers. Review logs for privilege escalation events and configuration data access.

MITRE ATT&CK

  • TA0001 — Initial Access: Attackers exploited exposed interfaces to gain entry.
  • TA0004 — Privilege Escalation: Vulnerabilities allowed elevation to admin privileges.
  • TA0009 — Collection: Adversaries exfiltrated sensitive configuration and cluster data.
